British Columbia home buyers pay a tax on the transfer of real estate property, aptly called Property Transfer Tax, which is based on the property’s fair market value (or purchase price).
In B.C., the tax rate is calculated at
- 1% on the first $200,000
- 2% on beyond $200,000 up to $2,000,000
- 3% on beyond $2,000,000 up to $3,000,000
- 5% on over $3,000,000
